The cylindrical panorama, just as the spherical panorama, has the 360° horizontal angular scale. But its vertical angular scale is smaller, that’s why one can’t view the “overhead and underfoot” spaces, which are called zenith and nadir, in the cylindrical type of panorama. That is the only difference of the cylindrical panorama from spherical. All the other capabilities of the spherical panorama (the virtual tour production, animation and sound addition, etc.) can be applied to cylindrical panoramas also. The cylindrical panorama viewers are the same as for the spherical ones.
In commercial projects deadlines and costs play an important role, and some customers just prefer to use cylindrical panoramas. The production of them requires less time than the production of spherical panoramas.
